Topic: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? High school students should be allowed to choose which subjects they will study. Use specific reasons and examples to explain your answer.
All people have their likes and dislikes. In most universities, students are able to choose their own major, and carry on the subject that they have interest in. However, some people rebut this fact, arguing that students must learn all the subjects equally. In my opinion, I think that students should be allowed to learn what they want to learn.
When you are able to choose a subject you want to study, you will probably be enthusiastic and eager to study. If you are to study all the subjects obligatorily, losing interest in studying could be a very easy thing. For example, a study showed that a group of students who were allowed to freely choose their major were able to express more passion towards the classes and show positive aspects. However, when students were forced to take all the classes, they all easily lost their interest. Thus, I suggest that having one subject that you want to study is more effective than having miscellaneous subjects to learn.
By having one straight subject as your favorite and studying hard, you will be able to know what you want to do in the future. When studying all the subjects, you won’t be able to get an idea of what your interest is. So, having a variety of things to learn as an obligatory curriculum could keep you from having a definitive vision of what you want to be. Instead, a single thing that you focus on can be a big help for your future career.
In conclusion, I strongly state again that students must be allowed to choose a definite subject to study. It could boost the fervent minds of students, encouraging him or her to study. This concept could help students set a straight future plan, and have a clear vision about their future career. Thus, I believe that being free about choosing a subject is an effective form of education.
