Topic: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Reading books about real events or people is more beneficial than reading fictional stories and novels. Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
Books are great treasures of wisdom which human beings have been creating almost since the written language was developed. Some people record real stories which they have experienced or known. Others create fictional stories of their own. For me, I think non-fictional books, which consist of real events and people, are able to provide more benefits to the readers. They can provide people with useful information which can be used in the real world. Moreover, unlike non-fiction, fictional stories and novels can lead readers to have false hopes and beliefs, separating him or her from the real world.
First, readers could perform a practical use of information after reading books about real events and people. Non-fiction books, which provide real and reliable information and facts, could enhance your thoughts about how you think of the world. By knowing historic events, scientific discoveries, or even interesting trends which are going around the world, you can learn about the world better than from fictional books. It could be the easiest way that can make a human being knowledgeable.
Secondly, fictional stories and novels could make people be isolated from the real world. Novels usually consist of synthetic backgrounds and stories. Supernatural or unreal phenomena occur in some situations. However, these absurd miracles and mysterious worlds could absorb people inside a book a bit too much. This could tear the reader apart from the real world, and make him or her to be enclosed in his own world. For example, I have one acquaintance who is a fantasy book maniac. He reads them every time whenever he has a chance to read them. This made him have no friends at all. He now can’t concentrate when studying, or play actively while others do. Like this, fantasized novels could make a person hard to adapt to the real world.
In conclusion, non-fiction stories and books could be a better choice for the readers. Books written about real events and people’s stories should enable a person to be more clever and wise about the world. On the contrary, fictional novels could easily isolate a person from the actual world that we live in. Considering these facts, non-fictional books could develop a strong wisdom in people, and blossom the fine insight within them too. They are a true treasure that human beings have been inheriting since ancient times.
