Topic: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People must get their news from newspapers; television news does not provide enough information. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Providing people with up-to-date news is important. Nearly every person gets everyday information through mediums such as newspaper or television. Thus, when it comes to news reporting, accuracy is greatly required. For this reason, I prefer to take the advantage of reading a newspaper, rather than watching television for news.
Newspapers are a more accurate source of information. Newspapers are brought out to citizens daily, while television broadcasts news frequently during the day. Television broadcasting systems considers the speed and providing up-to-date information the key point. However, this pursuit could induce mistakes, providing public with imprecise information. Like this, while television could falsely present events, newspapers are brought out to the public after having several investigations, and putting the information which is gathered for at least a day. Thus, information which is written in newspapers is more precise and accurate.
Also, newspapers are held to a high level of journalistic standards, encouraging producers to make impeccable articles. Television news is temporary, while newspapers are comparatively long lasting. Thus, critics don’t consider a single tiny mistake as a serious one, and just let it go. However, for newspapers, critics are very harsh and consider a flaw much more serious than they do for television. So, to avoid such critics, journalists and newspaper editors are very keen and accurate about what’s going out to the public, trying to make the finest and most flawless articles every day.
In conclusion, I agree that people must get their news from newspapers. They are more accurate than television, and editors put more emphasis and care on making the articles than television news producers do. On the whole, I think that newspapers were, and are, and will be the finest medium reporting daily events with superior accuracy and reliability.
